'71 (Yann Demange)
A). The purpose for this trailer is to advertise and promote the film '71
B). This trailer is presented in a non-linear format using clips from the film.
C/D). The trailer uses lots of weapons and big vehicles as props and all of the costumes are appropriate for the era and show how violent the situation is, with the main character (and many supporting characters) wearing soldier's uniforms to help convey the two different sides of the conflict. the setting however is quite different with the film being mostly set in in an urban part of Ireland, this separates it from other films and allows for different kinds of sequences to be made. The style of the clothes being worn lets the audience know that this is a period piece and helps remind the audience that this was inspired by real events that happened in many people's lifetime. And the shots of such big crowds shows how the soldiers were really unwelcome there, making the plight of the protagonist seem even more desperate and dangerous. The lighting is lowkey all the way throughout the trailer connoting the tone of the film and the bleakness of the situation. The music also builds up and becomes more intense and faster pace throughout the trailer, this helps create an escalating sense of tension and action, which makes viewers invested and wanting to see what will happen. The camerawork in the trailer is mostly handheld as the shaky effect gives the film a gritty effect and conveys the chaos and violence in the narrative. A lot of shots of the protagonist are long shots with him being stood by himself, this connotes how the character is alone in the city and has no one that can help him. The combination of quick cuts in the editing and the shaky handheld footage makes the film seem more chaotic, fitting the themes of war and making the audience feel as though they are a part of the action, allowing them to more easily empathise with the characters.
E). The trailer is quite conventional for a mature war/action film. It gives glimpses into the characters that will be present in the film without giving away much, focusing more on showing the setting and tone of the fim. The trailer also has text offering bits of exposition throughout the trailer, this is very common in trailers for war films.
F). The film was rated an 18 by the BBFC I think the trailer caters to the more mature audience by showing that it is set in a period of history not so commonly explored in film and teasing the brutality that would be present in the narrative. The Film will be aimed at male audiences due to the strong violence. Since it would have been showed at the cinema it will aimed at people in the A/B social grade because they will have more spending power to afford to be able to go out.
